2010-2011
After going back and forth, chicken and egg, about it a few times, we decided Harold would make the wooden chair first, then I would make the figure to fit the chair. Clay shrinks, but wood doesn't. While we were negotiating all of this, we lost our precious black kitty, Raku, to liver disease. So this became a piece about that. Raku loved to be held, and he especially loved to be held very close on my lap seated at the table like a baby. In this way he participated (purring) in many a game of Scrabble and family dinners.
This is one a series of figures in chairs. I hope Harold and I can collaborate on some more of them.
